The Nelson Softball Association extends a warm welcome to all those involved with softball.

Please see below information to help you with your start of season set up.

Core Business:

This year sees the following members head up the Nelson Softball Association Board. Sub committee areas are still to be organised. If you are keen to help out we would really appreciate having you on board to support one of our key areas; grounds and facilities, competition and participation, officials, coaches and volunteers, high performance and events and media.

Grounds and Facilities:

Working Bee:

​​​​​​​Please keep an eye out for up and coming working bees at the softball park. These will be posted on the Nelson Softball facebook page in the coming weeks. Putting the fences up is a big task and many hands make light work. 

Nelson Hockey/ Softball Pavilion:

The facilities we share with Nelson Hockey are a real asset for our sport. If you are interested in using the facilities for Club meetings or hiring the facilities for private events, let us know and we will put you in contact with the right people.

This year Don Glenie and Kelly Hahn will represent softball on this Board and Janice Oliver (Life Member) as an independent member.

Canteen: 

Yes, we can confirm that Sio will be back this season running the canteen!!!!

Competition and Participation:

Registrations:

  • Nelson Softball is completing all player registrations online through the sporty.co.nz website. 

  • Clubs are encouraged to get their members to complete all registrations by the 14th September.

  • Team entries are due to the Nelson Softball Association by the 21st September.

  • Team rosters are due to Nelson Softball by 28th September.

Senior Softball Forum:

On Sunday 25th August, 2024 Nelson softball invites all Club Reps, Senior Coaches and Managers to a softball forum to review the Competition Hand Book for the 2024/2025 Softball Season. Please ensure that this information is shared back to your Teams and advise who will be attending the meeting.The previous season’s hand book can be downloaded from our website

Senior Competition:

The senior men and women will play in the NSA 2024/2025 Competition. The competition will be played in two halves, Spring and Summer. All games will be played at Saxton Softball Park apart from a few games that we are looking to schedule in Blenheim again pending entry from Marlborough team/s. Once team entries are confirmed a draw will be prepared and shared out to all Coaches and Managers.

Spring League Start Date: Saturday 5th October - Saturday 14th December 2024

Summer League Dates: Saturday 25th January - Saturday 29th March 2025

Cost: This is $1300.00 (Inc GST) per team for the 2024/2025 season 

Invoices: These will be sent to Clubs/ Teams upon team entry

Team Entries close: 21st September

Coaches, Officials & Volunteers:

Coaching: 

It has been great to have Dave Elder, SNZ Community Lead, support us in the ‘off season’ developing our coaches and players. Nelson Softball Association is looking forward to welcoming Dave back on Saturday 14th September for a 1 day workshop.

SNZ Scorers:

Calling all scorers!!!! We would love to have more scorers out there on a Saturday. If you are interested in learning more about the game through the eyes of a scorer, we would love to hear from you. Volunteers: 

As with any sport, volunteers are key and we need your support. If you have some free time on your hands and are able to help, please let us know!

High Performance:

You would have also seen a few weeks back that expressions of interest were called for Coaches and Managers for the 2024/2025 Representative Season. Your support is very much needed here and it is not too late to apply if interested. REP Information.

Events and Media:

This is an area that we are continuing to grow. It has been great to see the activity on both the website and facebook page.

NSA Community Chat (Facebook Messenger): This is set up for softball Coaches, Managers, Team Captains, Club Committees, NSA Sub Committees and the NSA Board for getting information out to its members. It works so we will continue this again for the up and coming season. 

Signage and Sponsorship: 

We would really like to see more businesses take up this advertising opportunity. If you know of anyone interested, please contact us on the details as per the flyer on this page.

Other Events:

Labour Weekend Tournament: Nelson Softball is very excited to bring a tournament back to Saxton Softball Park this Labour weekend. Keep an eye out for more information.

NSA Youth Softball League: This competition starts Saturday 2nd November. Teams can enter into the following grades, U13's and U15's. The competition goes for 5 weeks and then there is a summer league that starts in February 2025. Cost to play is $180.00 per team per half season. Inquiries to: info@nelsonsoftball.org.nz

USC Mixed Social Slo-Pitch League: This 8A-Side softball league starts Wednesday 6th November. Gametime 6:00pm. Cost is $160.00 per team, 5 weeks Spring / 5 weeks Summer. Inquiries to: nelsonunitedsoftball@gmail.com

USC Monday Night Youth League: The T-ball and U11’s softball league starts Monday 4th November. Gametime 4:30pm. There is no cost for these grades. It’s FREE to play! Inquiries to: nelsonunitedsoftball@gmail.com
